The project

AquaMesh is a La Jolla company building optical water-quality sensing for coastal and industrial water systems. Its in-water probe, AquaSpectra, combines a UV/visible spectrometer, a fluorometer, and a turbidity sensor in one housing, so a single instrument can read parameters such as nitrate, chlorophyll, dissolved organic matter (fDOM), and turbidity. AquaMesh is validating it with the Coastal Ocean Observation Lab (COOL Lab) at Scripps Institution of Oceanography, on the Scripps Pier—an exposed site with constant wave energy, variable salinity, and heavy biofouling.

My part

I'm joining a focused research project between AquaMesh and the COOL Lab to help get the sensor ready for research use: the remaining software interface, the calibration workflow, and tuning the sensor across marine conditions. In practice that means reviewing the existing sensor architecture and software (the probe and hub firmware and the front-end interface), running calibration and testing workflows, analyzing sensor behavior and calibration results, and documenting what I find and what I'd change.
